The Ukrainian-Swiss project “Trauma Rehabilitation in Ukraine” (TRUE) and the Odesa Regional Administration have signed a memorandum of cooperation aimed at strengthening the rehabilitation system in the region.
The document was signed by the project team and representatives of the regional authorities in April. The memorandum outlines the framework of the partnership and identifies key areas of joint activity.
Among the main priorities of the cooperation are improving access to rehabilitation services, expanding the network of facilities, and strengthening their capacity. The project also includes the development of professional competencies of specialists and support for communities in implementing effective rehabilitation models.
In particular, within the framework of cooperation in the Odesa region, a comprehensive assessment of the rehabilitation system will be conducted, including an analysis of the existing service network and identification of barriers to access. Further work will focus on selected healthcare facilities and communities.
Additionally, healthcare institutions will be strengthened through staff training and the provision of necessary equipment and assistive rehabilitation devices. Special attention will be given to pediatric rehabilitation and rehabilitation in intensive care units.
At the community level, the project will focus on improving access to rehabilitation, prosthetics, and assistive devices, enhancing cross-sectoral cooperation, raising public awareness, and implementing barrier-free solutions.
For each community, individual action plans and patient pathways will be developed in cooperation with local authorities — from the moment of injury or illness to reintegration into community life.
The Ukrainian-Swiss project “TRUE – Trauma Rehabilitation in Ukraine” is implemented by the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) in consortium with the Patients of Ukraine Charitable Foundation and in partnership with the Protez Hub Charitable Foundation,he Ukrainian Physical Therapists Association, and te Ukrainian Society for Speech and Language Therapy.
